With the untimely demise of Shri. Arun Jaitely, dawn of articulated debates in Indian democracy has arrived. The 21st century youngsters never had the honour of listening to the speeches of the Mahatma, 'Tryst with destiny' of Pt. Nehru, parliamentary debates of Baba Sahah or Inspiring and patriotic speeches of Netaji. They weren't fortunate enough to witness sharp and accurate criticism of government by Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and even JP's patient and silent heartthrobing speeches after emergency.
But this generation had glimpses of most poetic orator with an ever energetic pause in his speeches delivered by Prime minister Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji. The generation is fortunate to have YouTube clips of Atal Ji's roar in the parliament while announcing his resignation. A speech followed by the resignation can never be historical as it was. The prowess in the voice, the pauses, the conviction, the determination to come back again and the promise to his people, it had everything to made it most historical resignation speeches ever made. Atal ji was not only a poet but he himself was a poetry in motion and rhythm. " कश्मीर कभी हथिया लोगे ये मत समझो, भारत का शीश झुका दोगे ये मत समझो "... the poem is enough to give goosebumps.
That was the staggering voice of Atal Ji which still wave in our ears.
That was the staggering voice of Atal Ji which still wave in our ears.
Next in the sequence is Late. Smt Sushma Swaraj ji. A fiery Lioness of Indian politics. Inspiration for women and men in India to follow. Depiction of Bhartiya Nari and brave child of Bharat mata was Sushma ji. 2009 - 2014 was the time in the Indian Political history when Leader of Opposition of Lok Sabha was waited to heard more by people than someone in the treasury benches. Dignifying the speeches and horrifying the government was possible at same time due to unprecedented talent of Sushma ji. Orator par excellence raised the bar of Oratory and debates in Indian parliament. " हां हां हम हैं सांप्रदायिक.... " - "दोष हमारा....श्रेय राम का" - " अब इस देश में राष्ट्रवादी राजनीति का समय आ गया है" - and " वसुधैव कुटुंबकम् " definition in United Nations. Sushma ji was brilliant in all of them. The day India will get another Leader of Opposition like her, the democracy will cherish itself. She was minister with motherly care of all Indians at MOEA. Her demise ended an era of Debates. Her charismatic reverberance of voice with commitment for ideology is unparalleled.
Today we lost another gem of a speaker both in Hindi and in English. An institution of knowledge in himself with witty oneliners. An avid reader, a brilliant lawyer and trouble shooting politician. Arun Jaitely had profound knowledge of everything with data and logical analogy, he combined it with absolutely brilliant speaking skills and delivered speeches in parliament which will always be remembered. The rise of BJP's ideology and acceptance among masses under charismatic leadership of PM Modi and HM Amit Shah is reality. But no one can deny the fact that BJP was most fierce opposition who poised stiff challenges to government because of two commander-in-chiefs at both houses of parliament. If it was Sushma ji at LS then it was Arun ji at RS. Arun Ji's souvenir in parliamentary debates will be written glorious handwritings.
For me as someone who has always loved debates and Speeches, I have lost my role-models. As a student of public speaking I have lost my gurus who were University for me. I have seen Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in my teenage more than movies or reality shows. Debates will never be the same. Speeches will never be the same. I will miss them. Atal Ji, Sushma Ji and Arun Ji ... Anyone who love debates, speeches, poetry, public speaking will always look upto you. Thanks for your contributions. Rest in peace. Om Shanti.
Got goosebumps feeling those lines
ReplyDeleteEmotional too
True that it is a great loss
But survival and evolution is the gist of our nation I believe same will be reflected and new orators will devolop in upcoming generation of today's houses...!!
The people never forget these leaders which not only given the path to reach moon but also provided power to make decision and take decision....reality is never be curse if you struggled ..as like GST..370..notebandi..kargil and many more into the list .
ReplyDeleteWe lost true leaders in the India history .
While Vajpayee ji and Sushma ji spoke from their heart, Arun ji used to speak from his mind.
ReplyDeleteThe common strain in the oratory of the 3 was their conviction and clarity of thought. There was a chance for Atal ji or Sushma ji to make mistakes but Arun ji was as accurate as Arjuna !
You have beautifully brought out your feelings and the impact the three leaders had on you and on the Indian political scene.
Nice thoughts !
True feelings.....
